Prof. Shekwonyadu Iyakwari
Editor-in-Chief
He holds a PhD in Mining and Minerals Engineering with specialization in minerals processing and applied mineralogy, from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom (2015), Master of Science degree in Minerals Exploration and Mining Geology (2010) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Mining (2004), both from the University of Jos, Nigeria. He has completed stages 1 and 2 certifications from the Higher Education Academy of the United Kingdom for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LTHE).
Prof. Iyakwari is currently a Professor with the Department of Geology, the Federal University of Lafia. Before joining the Federal University of Lafia, He spent eleven years from 2008 to 2018 with the Department of Geology and Mining, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he started as a Graduate Assistant in training, before withdrawing his services in 2018 as Lecturer I. He worked briefly as a Postgraduate Research Assistant with the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, with a European team on a collaborative European Horizon 2020 research project known as OptimOre. The thrust of the research was increasing yield for tungsten and tantalum operations by means of advanced and flexible control on crushing, milling, and separation processes. While studying for his doctorate degree, he worked with Anglo American copper and platinum operation, where he developed strategies for automated sorting of their copper and platinum ore from the Montverde, Chile, and Mogalekwana operations in South Africa, respectively.
Iyakwari has authored and co-authored a number of scientific papers and articles in several academic journals, including the Journal of Minerals Engineering, the Journal of Near InfraRed Spectroscopy, and the Journal of Physicochemical Problems in Minerals Processing, among others. His research publications are focused on developing strategies for automatic ore preconcentration, for optimal and cost-effective mineral processing. Other research interests include the application of geochemistry for minerals exploration and processing, environment, and health.
